Learn how to safely remove and install a new brush head on your Waterpik Sonic-Fusion 2.0. Follow these steps to keep your flossing toothbrush working effectively.
Quick answer
To replace the brush head on your Sonic-Fusion 2.0, press the release button, pull the old head straight off, then push a new head firmly onto the metal shaft until it clicks into place.
Why regular brush head replacement matters
Over time, bristles wear down and become less effective at removing plaque. Waterpik recommends changing the brush head every 3 months or sooner if the bristles appear frayed. A worn head can also reduce the water flossing performance of the Sonic-Fusion 2.0 because the brush and flosser share the same head assembly.
What you need before starting
You only need a compatible Sonic-Fusion 2.0 replacement brush head. The handle does not require any tools or disassembly. Make sure the device is turned off before you begin to avoid accidental activation.
Step-by-step brush head replacement
- 1. Turn off the handle: Press the power button to make sure the Sonic-Fusion 2.0 is completely off. This prevents the brush from spinning while you handle the head. If the handle is on, the brush head may eject suddenly or cause the motor to engage unexpectedly.
- 2. Press the release button: Locate the small release button on the back of the brush head, just above the handle. Press it firmly inward. Do not twist or pull the head without pressing the button first — forcing it can damage the locking mechanism.
- 3. Pull the old head straight off: While holding the release button, grasp the brush head and pull it directly upward away from the handle. It should slide off with light resistance. If the head does not come off easily, double-check that the release button is fully pressed. Never use pliers or tools.
- 4. Align and push the new head on: Take a new Sonic-Fusion 2.0 replacement brush head and line up the flat side of the metal shaft with the flat side inside the head. Push down firmly until you hear or feel a click. The head must be fully seated. A partial click means the head may pop off during use.
- 5. Test the fit: Gently tug upward on the new head to confirm it is locked in place. Then turn on the handle and run it for a few seconds to ensure the brush spins smoothly and the water flosser functions. If the head wobbles or water leaks around the base, remove and reinstall it. A loose fit can reduce cleaning effectiveness.
